The focus of the shoot was the engine oil developed specifically by BMW / MINI . The challenge of this high-speed film and photo production was to showcase the engine oil perfectly and visually demonstrate the efficiency and power behind it.
A high-speed film production offered the perfect opportunity to illustrate the effect through visually stunning shots. By measuring it against the physical strength of a high-performance athlete and using lightning-fast impressions of rapid car shots, the engine oil could be optimally staged. That is why the decision was made to shoot the liquids for real rather than animatingthem with CGI, even though both would have been possible.
In extreme temperatures and armed with plenty of special equipment, we used high-speed cameras to capture processes in slow motion that would otherwise remain hidden under the car's hood. During color grading in our in-house post-production studio, the project received its final polish. The result is an image film that impresses with breathtaking visuals and a fitting sound design. High-speed film production and photo production—two worlds that cannot always be combined easily during a shoot. This high-speed production also required our creativity to develop a smooth workflow, ensuring synergies for both the film and photo crews rather than creating additional obstacles.
