Challenge

Tears of the Olive is a short film about the history and origins of the olive—from the history of olive trees to the production of today's unique olive oil. In a world where we are exposed to an enormous number of stimuli every day, are always under pressure, and are increasingly stressed, it is becoming harder and harder for us to switch off. As a result, time for ourselves and our connection to nature are lost. For Johannes Ziegler it is therefore important to provide viewers with a gateway to nature through this short film.

Johannes succeeds in creating a unique atmosphere in the short film Tears of the Olive. For example, you can see olives being picked by hand in the gentle glow of the autumn sun. The short film impressively presents a beautiful corner of the earth and highlights an appreciation for nature and olive oil.

Solution

During color grading , good cooperation between the DoP and the color grading artist is essential to ensure the film achieves the desired look. Johannes was on-site with us as both DoP and director to collaborate on creating the perfect looks for the various scenes in Tears of the Olive. From the cool light of dawn and lush green olive branches to the warm, golden afternoon sun, the film now radiates the exact atmosphere that Johannes experienced in Tuscany. The film also becomes an immersive experience for the audience on an audio level. Through the rustling of branches in the wind and the chirping of birds, a balanced sound mix creates a unique connection to the nature of Tuscany. To give you a point of comparison, we have put together a few before-and-after images for you.
