Challenge

As part of the Iveco Group , Magirus GmbH is fully dedicated to fire protection through its production of firefighting equipment and vehicles. Their innovative firefighting technology not only assists in extinguishing fires but also ensures the safety of the firefighters themselves during operations. As part of the Next Generation product line , the Wolf R1 heralds a new era in firefighting technology. All under the motto: Integrated, intelligent, Magirus.

For our event film for the new Wolf R1 tactical robot from Magirus, we had the opportunity to head to great heights with the Ehrwald Volunteer Fire Department — up to 3,000 meters on the Zugspitze, to be exact. As the first buyer of the R1, the Ehrwald fire department is thrilled with their new companion—one of the most innovative products currently on the market. Due to the high altitude, the Ehrwald fire department relies on particularly innovative technology designed for challenging conditions that operates efficiently. The R1 is built exactly for this. The robot can be deployed when human lives would otherwise be at risk, such as in tunnel operations. In this way, Magirus technology not only ensures that fires can be extinguished quickly and efficiently, but also that no human lives are put in danger during the operations themselves.

Solution

Magirus collaborated with Alpha Robotics to test and optimize the robot's technology in direct field operations. It was therefore a special pleasure for us to celebrate the deployment of the new Wolf R1 together with Magirus and the Ehrwald fire department and to capture the test applications on film. Several fire companies were present at the event, where they were able to see the robot's various application possibilities live and gain a comprehensive impression of the technology.

During the test demonstrations, we were able to effectively showcase the R1's capabilities on film, such as pulling away a car—a task that might be necessary during a fire—or extinguishing a blaze using the integrated water cannon. We were able to beautifully capture more than just the effects shown during the test demonstration; the location on the Zugspitze naturally offered immense potential for impressive landscape shots. We didn't just fly a drone; we were also able to film while riding the mountain railway. The result is visually stunning and a fitting tribute to the R1.
