Challenge

How do you produce a game teaser when the game doesn't physically exist yet?

This was the challenge we faced at Panda Pictures when the Munich-based publisher Hans im Glück commissioned us to produce a video for their new children's game "Paleolino" —a kids' adaptation of the Kennerspiel des Jahres winner Paleo. The goal was an imaginative teaser that would immerse children and parents in the world of the game while briefly explaining how the cooperative adventure works.

At the time of the video production , however, there was no finished game, no printed materials, and no possibility for a traditional shoot. Instead, we worked exclusively with:

  • Game instructions
  • Character and packaging graphics
  • Illustrations and design elements

The teaser also had to be ready in time for the Nuremberg International Toy Fair, as Hans im Glück wanted to announce the game on social media for the first time there—even though "Paleolino" wouldn't hit shelves until March. Our task was to use creative video production and motion design to build an entire game world that didn't exist in reality yet, while still clearly demonstrating how the game works.

Solution

To tackle this challenge, we dove deep into the world of "Paleolino." We studied the game mechanics and developed a fully animated game world based on the graphics provided.

Our in-house expertise in graphic design, animation, motion graphics, sound design, color grading and post-production made it possible to transform static illustrations into a vibrant teaser experience.

The spot combines:

  • Animation and motion design
  • Storytelling and sound design
  • Classic post-production
  • The targeted use of AI as part of our workflow

It was clear throughout: AI does not replace film production, but supports them. This hybrid workflow allowed us to bring extra vibrancy to the game world, making it feel as if the game were already real. The teaser introduces the world of Paleolino, playfully explains the gameplay, and concludes with a clear packshot and the release date.

„Ein liebevolles Spiel braucht ein Video, das emotional berührt und gleichzeitig konvertiert. Genau diesen Sweetspot haben wir mit der Animation für Paleolino perfekt getroffen."
